It’s totally up to you. One of the best things about ScratchBack is YOU decide how much you want to allow your readers to tip you.
However, there are some “best practices” to consider if you want your TopSpot widget to run effectively, and profitably! Here’s what our research has shown us so far. This in information we’ve deduced from over 500 signups and users of ScratchBack so far.
Note: By FAR… the most tipped widgets are ones that are between $5-$10. Keep that in mind when you setup your widget.
The Sweet Spots!
Right now the two “types” of widget setups that are getting the most tips are the following.
#1 Top ScratchBack Tip Getter - $5-10 Tip, Set For One-Week
It appears that loyal readers are very, very happy with tipping the blog owner anywhere from $5-$10 for a week long link or image on their blog. This makes sense, because why wouldn’t you want to get a nice little link or image back to your blog, or product, or affiliate site for a week for just a few bucks?
What Type Of Blog Does This Work For?
This is a great option for a blog who has users who visit once or twice a week.
#2 Top ScratchBack Tip Getter - $1-10 Tip, Set On Auto Bump
Readers really like this option because it allows every them to “get in on the action” of popular blogs for a low-cost tip. What we’re seeing is that for popular blogs with a lot of traffic, the readers are fighting (re-tipping over and over) to stay in the top spots. This is great for the blog owner, and for the reader. We’re also seeing that many readers are putting affiliate links in and generating sales and traffic for their blogs or products in return for a tiny tip. It’s a win/win for both blogger and reader.
What Type Of Blog Does This Work For?
This is a great option for a blog who has lots and lots of readers. It allows your readers to participate beyond just comments, and “get back” something in return.

I love your system! I just posted my widget and am excited to see how it’s received by my readers. I have about 85 subscribers and a PR 3 blog where I post overheard conversations and use them for creative writing inspiration. I decided to use the auto bump feature and charge $5 for tips. I’ll adjust as needed.
Also as a little experiment, I have the entrecard widget under yours. Some might wonder why pay for a link when you can get one free on entrecard…but my widget has a 14 day wait right now so I’m hoping others who want immediate exposure will opt for your tipping option. We’ll see!
