Quick Fix: Expired Listings
Monday
Aug 18, 2008
We just fixed a little bug in the “cron jobs”. What that means is that you know how some people set their widgets to be 24 hours or 30-days? Well, there was a bug in the system that wasn’t clearing the tips when they were supposed to expire. So what happened was that a lot of tippers got a ton of extra exposure.
Ahh, beta. The good news is that it’s fixed, rewritten and working perfectly. For example, you can get a $10 tip and placement over at the Revenue Today blog for 30-days! Pretty amazing deal for the traffic and reach they have. Check it out.
Using ScratchBack For Charity
Wednesday
Aug 6, 2008
Over at KarenSugarPants.com, Karen is doing something really neat with her ScratchBack widget. She’s donating all the tips she gets to a good cause.
Last month I made $45.66 through BlogHer ads and immediately turned it over to Lisa. I so desperately wanted it to be more.
When I saw this program over at ScratchBack, I knew I could create another way to help Lisa.
But this time I can offer you something back. A link on my sidebar. See over there where it says “Get In My
PantsTop Spots?”For $10, payable through Paypal, you can have a link from this site to yours for as long as there’s a spot available. So the first 20 people get on the list, and if #21 comes along, you get bumped but can pay again to get back on the team. Every dollar I receive from ScratchBack will be donated to Lisa and her family.
I sure would like to see Lisa’s family have a full team roster over there in my sidebar. Want to join the team?
(Also, if you want to do the same thing on your blog, by all means! The more the merrier!)
Pretty awesome way of helping someone. I just tipped her, will you!????

Super blogger, and cool dude, Technosailor.com has added ScratchBack to his blog and has the price for a tip set at only $10 bucks. A very low tip considering the high-level influencer he is and the people who read his blog. I highly suggest you get a listing over there before it fills up.
Oh yeah, he did a nice review of us too. Thanks Aaron.

Blog Networks Adopting ScratchBack
Tuesday
Mar 18, 2008
We’re not going to say who it is just yet, but we wanted to announce that a blog network has begun testing of the ScratchBack system across their blogs. The widgets we made for them are custom designed to match each blogs’ color. We’re pretty excited about it.
Hopefully we’ll get permission from the network to talk about it down the road when we have more data. Till then, keep your eyes out for widgets in new places you may not have seen them before. We’re taking the online tipping space by storm!
What If We Made All Widgets A Minimum $5.00 Tip?
Monday
Mar 10, 2008
Right now the minimum you can setup a SB widget at is a $1.00 tip. We set it up this way to lower the barrier of entry for people with lower traffic blogs. The idea was that their readers would be able to participate for a low cost.
What we have found during the beta is that less than 50% of the people using the widget have their tips set at less than $5.00. So when we look at that data, we wonder if it wouldn’t be best to simply make the minimum tip to $5.00 for everyone. What do you think? Sound off.
Note: Our studies have shown that the people who price at $5.00 and above receive the most tips out of anyone. Why? Well, we believe it’s the psychology of the matter. If a tip “costs” more, it must be worth more?
Consider that when pricing your widgets, and let us know about your thoughts on the minimum?
Last thing. The PayPal cut on $1.00 really stinks. On $5.00 it is much more reasonable. So actually, having a higher tip amount means you pay less to PayPal.

Using ScratchBack To Monetize A Podcast
Sunday
Jan 13, 2008
Over at JimKukral.com, my main blog, I’ve just released my new web show called the Daily Flip. It’s a show about marketing and being an online entrepreneur and stuff like that.
I’m using ScratchBack to help monetize it, check it out here on this video. See the arrow pointing to the ScratchBack widget on the right of the video?

We believe that using ScratchBack in this manner is a viable way to make money with your video or audio podcast content. The widget on JimKukral.com is only set to $10 for a week, as a starting point. A podcaster could adjust that to anything they wanted, based upon the “value” they put on their show.
For example, if you’re getting 2,000 video views a day on your blog, you may set your widget to be a month link, and make each link be $100 or more. That’s money that you didn’t have before, and more importantly, you don’t have to embed an ad in your video.
Give it a try? Visit ScratchBack.com today to get your own widget, for free!
